FCCLA state competitors showcase their awards.
On April 12 and 13, four FCCLA members went to Dallas with their advisor, Christen Smajstrla, to represent Hallettsville High School and showcase the projects they’ve been working on over the past year.
Senior Brenna Scott competed in one of the newest STAR events, Teaching Strategies.
“What I had to do was create a complete lesson plan over any subject and grade level of my choice, then present one of the activities from the lesson plan in the form of a demonstration,” said Scott.
Junior Nadia Evans competed in Event Management Level 3.
“For my project, I worked alongside the Yoakum Heritage Museum to host the Kick It Up Gala. In my presentation, I had a portfolio prepared with every detail from our planning process,” said Evans.
Sophomore Jennessee Kutach participated in Texas Serving Up Success, where she had to mimic a restaurant setting and serve judges with proper etiquette.
Junior Kendall Mayer attended, representing Region 4 as the new VP of Programs.
“My job was to be a door greeter, hand papers and pencils out, and take a headcount at one of the various leadership tracks that FCCLA provided for members that wanted to learn more about stepping up,” said Mayer.
Brenna Scott placed first in her event and received a gold medal for Creed, Mission, and Purpose FCSA testing. Jennesse placed fourth in her event and received a silver medal in Child Development FCSA testing. Kendall received a silver medal in Power of One FCSA testing.
So many life-lasting memories were made in Dallas. Friendships were formed, and late nights were filled with endless laughter.
“My favorite memory from the trip was definitely performing at the talent show with Jennessee. It was extremely nerve-wracking, but a great experience overall. Performing music is one of my all-time favorite activities, and combining that with one of my favorite organizations was priceless,” said Scott.
This upcoming June, Kendall and Brenna will be hitting the road for Orlando, where Brenna will compete at the national level. Congratulations to everyone who competed in Dallas. Good luck to Brenna and Kendall in Florida.
NEXT STOP ORLANDO!
