Seniors celebrate in their cap and gowns before their last walk.
On May 15th, at 8:05, senior students will be decked out in their maroon graduation gowns. The seniors will start walking in front of the high school and will walk through the halls, sharing glances at their friends, underclassmen, and teachers. Many students mention that this moment is where “things get real,” and they are hit with the reality that they are moving forward in their lives. The moments they shared during the last four years will all become distant memories as they take that next step in their lives.
“I think it’s a great tradition because I think it lets them reminisce on what they have been through K-12, you know, you go there and you see future ones that are going to be there in 10 years,” Principal Mason Briscoe said.
After the seniors finish making their way through the high school hallways, they will head to the elementary school, where everything started many years ago. When seeing the young students at the campus, the seniors are hit with the nostalgia of being young and naive again, some wishing they had more time, and others are happy to begin moving on to better things.
“I think it brings light to how a school’s community can shape somebody’s life,” Briscoe said.
“You could ask some of these kids, and they would say, you know, ‘10 years ago, I never thought I’d be at this moment. And now I’m either going to college or getting a job,’ and it’s pretty cool to see,” Briscoe said.
The seniors will take this joy from the senior walk to their graduation this Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m., at the Brahma Memorial Stadium.
