The Hallettsville Lady Brahma Volleyball team is in the swing of pre-season. With district competition fast approaching, Coach Courtney Olbert has been asking her team to remember what they want to accomplish this season, and to realize the road to reach their ultimate goal continues every time they step on the floor.
“My goal is for the girls to be a 500 Team, that means winning half of their games- I think we are already going to reach that goal- and for the girls to reach the playoffs,” explained Olbert about her vision for the team and their season.
Collectively, the team agrees that they want to make it past district, something that they haven’t done in two years.
“I just want to make it to the playoffs, like, as a Freshman I just think that would be really cool,” said player Christine Felcman, “And make a little run. Even if it’s a small one.”
It’s more than a dream. Olbert has been showing the team since the beginning that it’s all attainable- one goal at a time.
“We all decided that we wanted to go to playoffs. Ok, so now how do we reach that? What are the goals that will help us get to that dream?” asked Olbert to her team, “Everyone consistently said not losing to the same opponent twice- so if they take a win from us on the road when they come to our house we have to take a win, and then not losing two sets in a row.”
The volleyball team knows that it won’t be an easy road, but by taking the time in and out of practice to prepare, they step onto the court with full confidence in themselves and their team.
“I do expect that the teams will be tough,” admits Felcman, “We’ll have to keep our energy up, but we can compete with all the teams that we play.”
The Lady Brahmas are currently competing in the Lady Raider tournament in Rice. They will face Flatonia on the road next Tuesday, along with a home game against Yorktown on 6 Sep. They will travel to Calhoun on the 10th before opening district play, here, on the 13th.
“I want everyone,” says Olbert, “to come and see the magic that is happening out there on the court.”
