The Miss Hallettsville Scholarship Pageant took place on January 11th, with three contestants in the running for the title of Miss Hallettsville. The contestants are Olivia Weiser and Kylie Barrera of Hallettsville High School, and Rylan Dworsky of Sacred Heart High School. Hallettsville’s Olivia Weiser won the title of Miss Hallettsville and the $1,250 scholarship.
Along with the running for the Miss Hallettsville crown, the pageant also holds a competition for the titles of Little Mister, Little Miss, Young Miss, and Junior Miss Hallettsville.
“I hope the pageant goes good for the other girls,” Barrera said. “Whether it be on the float or the stage. My plans are to win Miss Hallettsville and try to help the community a little more.”
Being on the royal court, Dworsky and the rest of the court strive to be a positive example and a good role model for the community.
“An overall goal for the whole court this year is for us to have a positive impact on the community and be people that the rest of the community can look up to,” Dworsky said.
“Some plans for my reign as Jr. Miss are to help my community out as much as I can, and be a positive role model for my classmates and my younger peers,” Junior Miss Hallettsville, Sofia Flores said.
“My hopes for entering the pageant was to meet new people, represent my community, and be a role model for all the young girls watching,” Weiser said. “I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and show people that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.”
Many contestants compete not only for the scholarship but also to be the face of Hallettsville and to further help their community.
“As Miss Hallettsville, I plan to be involved in my community as much as I can,” Weiser said. As I said in my on-stage question, I would love to read to children to improve their literacy, volunteer at nursing homes, or simply just help out at local events.”
“I plan to help my community by being present at all events open to the community, volunteering when someone is in need of help and being there for someone who needs friendship or advice,” Flores said.
As the coordinator of the Miss Hallettsville pageant, Colette Jahn is looking forward to working with this year’s court to make the community the best it possibly can be.
“I’m eager to see how much public service we can embrace this year. Last year, we had an incredible group of parents and kids who truly made a difference, and it’s essential that we continue building on that momentum,” Collette Jahn, director of the Miss Hallettsville pageant said. “I envision the titleholders of the Miss Hallettsville pageant as examples of compassion and generosity, inspiring others through their actions and dedication.”
