On the last Wednesday of September, a national student-led prayer is held before the start of school. This past Wednesday, students gathered at the front of Hallettsville High School for prayer, breakfast, and fellowship with friends and classmates.
“See you at the pole is just an amazing way to gather your thoughts. I think it’s a great way to leave all your burdens at the pole, to leave it with God, to leave for others to help pray for you, and to help guide you through this. I think it’s a great way to carry that reminder that you have a group of people that are praying for you, and just to know that Jesus loves you,” Sophomore Reese Temple said.
‘See you at the pole’ is very impactful to many students, and lots of those students benefit from praying with their peers and want to consider doing ‘See you at the pole’ more than just once a year.
“I think if we continue to go through with ‘See you at the pole’, not just something we do once a year, but something we do daily, just saying how much God does for us and praying over each other inside the school as well, I think it will make the students’ faith even stronger,” Senior, Logan Moore said.
There are students throughout HHS who are deeply dedicated to their faith and are eager to assist anyone in Hallettsville who may need prayer or support with any issue.
“Something that I prayed for this morning is that no matter what is going on in our life, we can give everything to Christ and lay everything that’s keeping us from him aside to just focus on him and be the children of Christ,” Moore said.
Many students left the event feeling inspired and renewed, starting their day off good, praying they can relay this good feeling off to someone new; and for some, their wish came true.
“Today at ‘See you at the pole’ I prayed to encounter someone that doesn’t really know God,” Senior Izzy Deaton said. “And a student I just encountered with a lot of other students surrounding me had the opportunity to explain to her that God is real because she was having a little doubt, so that was one thing that I prayed for and it was a sign from God that he is real.”
While ‘See you at the pole’ is a student-led prayer service, teachers and staff are also encouraged to attend and join the students in prayer. One of the teachers who attended this past week is biology and forensics teacher, Kristen Jasek.
“It gives us hope from the unification from left to right, old to young, believers and non-believers. I pray every day that we can come together under his name,” Ms. Jasek said.
As a teacher and mother, Ms. Jasek is already thinking about the future of the students at HHS and how ‘See you at the pole’ impacts them.
“I think it’s a foundation that everyone would benefit from if they just took the opportunity to love him, and worship him, and put him first. I think the rest of your life just kind of falls into place.” Ms. Jasek said.
