After years of saving lives and caring for patients, Mrs. Ashley Albrecht has traded in her scrubs for a whiteboard marker, stepping into a new role as a health sciences instructor at Hallettsville High School. Now, she’s guiding students through CNA training, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. From her favorite ways to unwind after a long day, to the life lessons she brings into the classroom, Mrs. Albrecht is excited to embark on this new journey with her students.
Mrs. Albrecht’s journey from nursing to teaching was not just a career change but her calling. She aims to bring the same level of care and dedication to her classroom as she did to her patients.
“I’ve always wanted to teach, even before I became a nurse. An opportunity arose to use both skills, to be a nurse and to teach.” Albrecht said.
Transitioning from a nurse to a teacher can be an adjustment but it’s one Mrs. Albrecht has embraced. Her role is not just a teacher, but a mentor with many goals she hopes to accomplish with her students.
“My goals for my students are to hopefully talk to me a little bit more because everyone is really, really quiet. And to leave my classes with more knowledge than they came in with and positive attitudes.” Albrecht said.
Beyond a day at work, Mrs. Albrecht has many hobbies and interests. Balancing work and home life can be a challenge but Albrecht has succeeded in both.
“I have three kids so I spend lots of time with my girls. I have 2 dogs. I spend lots of time with my dogs. I like to go camping, I love to shop, and drink coffee.” she said.
When it comes to unwinding after a long day, Mrs. Albrecht enjoys the simple pleasures.
“Reading a book, watching a TV show, or just spending time with my kids,” she admits.
In her teaching, Albrecht incorporates
the skills and experiences she gained as a nurse.
“I did a lot of hands-on teaching at my last job with my staff,” Albrecht explained, “those are the same skills that I plan to use here.”
This is her first year of teaching, and Mrs. Albrecht is back at her alma mater, making this new chapter even more meaningful.
“I’m excited to give back to the school I graduated from,” Albrecht said.
