Hello everyone! My name is Averie Herring. I turned 16 on June 3, and this is my junior year of high school. I’ve been feeling a little nervous about junior year, as people say this is the hardest year, but I’m still really excited to see what the year has in store for me.
Aside from my four core classes, I’m taking Spanish II, Band, One Act Play, and of course, Newspaper. Originally, I joined the newspaper because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to take One-Act play, so I needed another class in my schedule. However, One Act Play did manage to become a class, so I didn’t need newspaper anymore.
But as I thought about my schedule, I realized that I did want to take Newspaper. It sounded like a fun class where I could get my voice out in the world, a chance to showcase what I think is important and what my thoughts are. After a lot of thinking and a bit of sacrifice, I decided to drop the floral design class I was going to take and instead take Newspaper. It still feels too early in the year to truly decide if that was the right decision for me, but I think I made a good choice.
As for my life, not during school, I really enjoy reading. The book series I talk about the most is Warriors, by Erin Hunter, although currently, I am reading Scorch Dragons by Amie Kaufman and Seekers by Erin Hunter. I also like writing. I have a lot of thoughts, and I love having the ability to put what I’m them into words. Some other things I like are acting, band, and baking.
Once I graduate, I hope to go to college for ecology. Right now I’m most interested in attending Texas A&M, the school my sister is currently attending, although I would love to explore a little and find out what is out there.
Overall, I’m really excited for this year and my position on the newspaper staff, as well as all my other classes. I hope to learn a lot, pass all my classes, and keep both feet in the winner’s circle. Go Brahmas!
