Hallettsville High School has started a new club this year. The Spanish Club has brought new opportunities to students, aiming to educate the public, encourage students to participate in leadership activities and engage students in a different culture. Directed by Spanish two and three teacher Danielle Buehring, this club jumped into the year full of projects and fun facts, ready to spread the word about everything it offers.
“If you are Hispanic or non-Hispanic, I hope that this club brings cultural awareness and that feeling of being a part of a club,” states Buehring.
With many goals for this new year, the Spanish club has been working hard to organize student fundraisers and activities. There’s a lot of work to do this year if the Spanish club is to make it the best it can be. One of the events the Spanish Club plans to hold this year is a hot chocolate cart for the teachers of HHS, spreading Christmas cheer by delivering well-needed Abuelita Hot Chocolate during these cold months.
“We are looking to bring something to Hallettsville that has never been done before, so I’m excited,” states Buehring.
Although the club anticipates this year will be full of hard work they know that they haven’t reached their full potential yet. As it is the Spanish Club’s first year Buehring has decided to be a bit cautious, not wanting to bite off more than the club can chew.
“Since this is our inaugural year I’m expecting just love and support right now,” says the Spanish Club director. “It’s something that I’ve done a long time ago and I brought it back here to Hallettsville because I think it’s important.”
Spanish Club may be testing the waters this year, but that doesn’t stop them from having big goals. Buehring would like to host fun activities for members of the school and community as well as fundraisers that will not only fund the club but also be a fun experience for those involved.
“I definitely want to bring more cultural events to campus,” adds Buehring.
Buehring isn’t the only one excited for Spanish Club. Many members of the club are ready to see what this year has to offer them.
“I joined Spanish Club because it was something new and exciting,” Carson Barrera, the Club’s president, stated. “I’m most excited to throw the spring loteria/bingo; and also the field trips that are in the works.”
Spanish Club’s dreams are to grow over the years, encouraging students who want a fun extracurricular or opportunity to look into joining.
“If you want to join a less stressful club on campus where you can be yourself and have fun definitely look into it,” encourages Buehring.
Spanish club is for all people, no matter who you are. As long as you want to help out in the club, you are more than welcome.
“I encourage everyone who wants to learn about the culture, come to our potlucks, and get involved within the school and community to join,” Barrera says.
