Love is in the air at Hallettsville High School. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and whether you’re planning a romantic night out or embracing your single era with friends, one thing is certain–-it’s the season of love. To get into the spirit, we asked students and teachers about their favorite rom-coms, ideal dates, and what they want on February 14th.
Rom-Coms and Romance
There’s nothing like a classic rom-com to set the Valentine’s mood, and according to our poll, students have similar opinions about their favorites. 10 Things I Hate About You, 50 First Dates, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days made the top of the list, proving that classic and crazy love stories still have a hold on our hearts. Whether you’re snuggled up watching Crazy, Stupid, Love or laughing at She’s the Man, rom-coms remind us why we love love (even when it’s messy.)

The Perfect Date? It’s Simpler Than You Might Think
Forget over-the-top grand gestures—most students’ and teachers’ ideal date is surprisingly simple: a cozy movie night with a simple dinner, a picnic at sunset, or a spontaneous road trip or vacation. Fancy dinners and extravagant gifts might be nice, but for many, quality time is what really matters
Gifts: What Do Girls and Guys Really Want This Valentine’s Day?
When it comes to Valentine’s gifts, girls have a mix of traditional and unexpected requests. While many still love jewelry, chocolate, and stuffed animals, others wished for handwritten letters, sports equipment, and even a clean house! But guys don’t worry, over 50% of our answers just included wanting a pretty bouquet of flowers.
And girls, what should you get your man for this day? The responses were a little different—many admitted they don’t expect much but would appreciate something as simple as food, a sweet kiss, or even just some candy. Our favorite answer from this section, and a slight *hint* to all the ladies, go get your man a nice Bone-In Ribeye Steak!
Are Flowers and Chocolate Still the Go-To Gift?
The debate is over and the answers don’t lie. Guys you don’t have to worry because, despite the rise of unique gift ideas, 68% of students and teachers agreed that flowers and chocolate are still the best Valentine’s gift. Classic, simple, and always a sweet surprise that remains a Valentine’s staple for a reason.
No matter how you celebrate, Valentine’s Day is about more than just gifts, it’s about showing love in all forms. Whether you’re watching your favorite rom-com, going on a date, or just spending time with friends, make it a day to remember.
P.S. Visit the library to pick up a cute Valentine’s Day bag for your significant other or secret admirer. Each bag includes candy and a love letter. Goodie bags are $3 each, and don’t be shy to add a small quote to be read over the intercom for an additional $2!
