This year, Hallettsville High School’s newspaper reached an exciting milestone: the publication of its first print edition. After months of hard work, dedication and collaboration, the seven-member staff, along with guidance from their adviser, has produced an edition that highlights the talent and creativity of their team.
With help from all staff members, this print edition features a wide range of articles covering our school and community. From sports articles to interviews, features and games, the paper captures the unique voices of our students, bringing our campus and town to life.
“I am really proud of what we put out especially considering none of us had any experience in publishing a newspaper until this year,” said Editor in Chief, Adalyn Pohl. “Seeing how much work we put into it made it extra special to see our work in print.”
Producing a print edition is not an easy task, especially for a small team. Small mistakes were made and lessons learned for next time, but our staff gained valuable experience and valuable lessons about collaboration, deadlines, and the importance of portraying someone’s voice.
“I believe at the start of the class it was rocky with many students not knowing how to write and to now, a lot of us improved our writing capabilities. I am very proud of our paper and staff members.” said staff member Amy Satsky.
Transitioning from a digital format to a printed edition was without challenges. The staff had to learn about layout designs, editing for print, and how to meet deadlines along with their other school work. With limited experience, the team came together relying on each other to get the job done.
“It is a lot to handle but I have a lot of people to help me,” said staff member Hunter Bomar. “I spend lots of time working on the paper in my free time but if I ever need help there is always someone there who I trust to help.”
This edition is not just a collection of articles, but a reflection of the school’s spirit. The paper aims to foster a sense of community within the school. Many students and staff have expressed their excitement about having a print edition, and the staff hopes this will inspire more students to get involved in newspapers for years to come.
As the school year continues, the newspaper staff plans to expand on this achievement by publishing another edition at the end of the 2025 school year. The future looks bright for Hallettsville High School Newspaper, and this first print publication is just the beginning of the team’s journalism journey.
