On May 7, the Hallettsville High School Theater Club will be performing their production of “Beware the House on Haunted Hill!” by Matthew Byrd and Kathryn Funkhouser. This play is a comedy-horror based on the 1959 film “House on Haunted Hill,” written by Robb White and directed by William Castle. The cast are at a party hosted by the famous producer Frederick Loren for his wife Annabelle. Braylon Phelps, who plays Dr. David Trent, shares how he feels about acting.
“I think acting is its own talent, as I still even think it’s hard to not smile a little when I think a line is funny. Not to mention that acting in a way I personally wouldn’t in front of a crowd is hard, but I don’t think it’s too hard to get into the groove of acting like a petty psychiatrist,” Phelps said.
The HHS Theater Club has been working tirelessly for around 5 months to piece together their play. They are excited to perform their play and can’t wait to show their talent during their performance. Rhea Kirkman, who plays Willow Pritchard, shares how she feels about the play.
“I feel sort of good about the play, though obviously I’m nervous to perform. I just hope everyone remembers all of their lines and nothing goes terribly wrong. I like the play, it’s got a good plot and I really enjoy my character,” Kirkman said.
“Beware the House on Haunted Hill” is a full-length play with two acts. The characters all have distinct personalities and the story is interesting and captivating. Conner Thomas, who plays Lance Schroeder, shares how he feels about his character.
“I love acting. When I was asked to play Lance, I was a little iffy on if I really did want to play him, but he’s a very fun character to play. I’m thoroughly enjoying my time as Lance, but I do wish that I was able to have acted a little more in my high school career, I really only ever played 2 to 3 roles in the around 6 plays I did. I am thankful for the time that I got,” Thomas said.
