The Hallettsville Brahmas came up ten points short after a hard fought battle, 29-19 against the Tidehaven High School Tigers. This loss brings our Brahma’s record to 2-1 on the season.
In the start of the first quarter the Tigers opened strong and scored the first touchdown of the game, but our Brahmas responded quickly with a touchdown of our own. During the second quarter, the Tigers were able to score a touchdown before the end of the half, bringing the score of 7-14 with two quarters left to play.
“At the end of the first half, rather than trying to run the clock out, we elected to take a shot down the field for a big play. The ball was incomplete, stopping the clock, and we ended up having our punt blocked which led to a Tidehaven score late in the first half,” Head Coach Levi Montgomery stated. “I will never regret being aggressive and giving our kids a chance to make a play. Going in at halftime down, though, put us in a hole we were never able to dig out of.”
Down in the second quarter of the game, Montgomery emphasized that the defense and the offense both had mental difficulties that impacted the rest of the game.
“We are a physically tough team. We must, however, be more mentally disciplined on both sides of the ball. On defense, we did not get lined up correctly a couple of times which hurt us. Offensively, mental mistakes and turnovers put us in a tough spot at times. We also were not sound on special teams,” Montgomery said.
With multiple players out for injuries and illness, our Brahmas still put up a tough fight.
“I am very proud of the way our boys fought in the face of adversity. We knew all week we were going to be down multiple starters due to injuries and sickness,” Montgomery stated, “A weak team would’ve made excuses and felt sorry for themselves. Our boys fought and gave us an opportunity to win.”
The Hallettsville Brahmas will play again this Friday, September 20, 2024 away at Rice Consolidated against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m.
