With people in the audience speckled in red, white, and blue, and ‘Be a Charlie’ shirts, Amazing Grace began to play.
Sunday, Sept. 21, citizens around the world touched by Charlie Kirk’s death came together to celebrate his life. Charlie Kirk was a husband, father, and son who lived to speak the truth and spread the gospel. He was killed on Sept. 10, 2025, in Orem, Utah.
Lavaca County residents came together for their own vigil on Sunday night at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Doctor Robin Armstrong, a national committee member for the Republican National Convention and a leader at Turning Point Faith, spoke at the vigil about the Charlie he knew.
“Charlie stood for truth; he spoke the truth wherever he went,” Armstrong said.
At the vigil, during open remarks, Hallettsville citizen Larry Obst led in the singing of the song “We are one in the Spirit.”
Kendall Thompson, a sophomore at Hallettsville High School, read a scripture at the vigil.
“I was very honored when I was asked to read a scripture at the Charlie Kirk vigil. Most of all, I was very scared to read it in front of a bunch of people with such little notice. But, reading 1 Timothy 4:12-16 reminded me that it is more important to honor my faith than to be scared.”
Hallettsville/Sweet Home citizen Jordan Sluka, helped organize the event to honor Charlie.
“The environment was very beautiful, touching, and it was an honor to be a part of it,” Sluka said. “The capacity was 200, with 200 chairs, and I believe we had around 15 people standing.”
Charlie will always be remembered for impacting the lives of millions of citizens.
“His assassination is a defining moment of our time. He was one of a kind and was an advocate for free speech,” Sluka said.
