A new season has arrived, after weeks of conditioning and tryouts, the boys’ basketball team is already showing growth, setting the tone for a new season built on effort, hard work and something to prove.
“The expectations for this season are to grow, improve and end at district by the end of the year in the playoffs,” said Coach Barnes. “Some of the challenges the teams would be facing are learning new stuff, but once they get into a better routine, those challenges would take care of themselves. There are a lot of young guys who were in JV last year but improved to play in Varsity, the freshmen’s potential would help out.”
“For this season, I expect my team to win, do good in every game and have fun as the season goes. I would expect to build friendships and work together. Belonging on the team is what I’m most excited about, working my hardest, having people who care and want to show their work in every practice and game. My goal for this season is to get better at my shooting. I plan to achieve them by practicing more and learning how to do stuff by myself more because my mom always helped me to get better, but I want to show I can do it on my own,” said sophomore Tristin Moore.
The expectations are looking the same for all the players, as they are trying to do their best and have the opportunity to show off by making dunks and scoring a lot of points.
“My expectations for this season are to win and make a great season out of it. My personal goals are to dunk three times at least a game or two this season, and I plan to achieve them by having my teammates help me. I’m most excited about my team and the coaches,” said junior Gavyn Chapa.
Last year, the varsity basketball team couldn’t make it to playoffs, but the hard work our freshmen, juniors and seniors are doing is looking forward to helping them out.
“The expectations for this season are to make the playoffs because, unfortunately, last year we couldn’t make the playoffs but this year we will work hard for it. I’m excited to gain the opportunity and get the chance to play with my friends and enjoy my senior year. My goal is trying to get a dunk this year because I always do it at practice and I would like to do it in a game,” said senior Mycole Pegoda
As the new season starts, the boys are preparing for their next tournaments and games, wanting to win and having people who care and want to play would take them to victory as they rely on each other, having each other’s back, making sure to always be a team inside and off the court.
