As we head into Christmas break and prepare to close out another semester at Hallettsville High School, your Brahma Lariat staff wanted to share a few thoughts, pieces of advice and words of encouragement.
“If I could give one piece of advice to students over the break would be to give themself a real break. Rest their mind, spend time with family and friends, do things that make them happy. And come back stronger, less stressed and ready to take on the new semester,” staffer Maria Alvarez said.
Don’t stay cooped up in your room, go out, be with family and friends, and enjoy the time you get with them. Some staff encouraged students to try something new over the break, whether that’s a hobby, a skill or simply choosing to be more present.
“One piece of advice I would give to students is make sure you don’t stress yourself out about things you can’t control and get lots of rest. Spend time doing things you enjoy and spend time with your friends, maybe even learn a new hobby or skill,” staffer Averie Herring said.
As you head into the new year, remember that your grades, especially finals, do not define you. What matters is that you give your best and finish the semester strong.
“Keep trying your best and let God handle the rest,” staffer Kendall Thompson said.
This season is also a chance to reflect on why we celebrate, to turn up the Christmas music and remember the meaning behind it.
Looking back on this semester, we are incredibly grateful to every student who read our stories, supported our work or helped us share the news of HHS. Your voices, experiences and ideas inspire every article we write.
“All students should strive to give it their all and end the semester strong, and try new things as the new semester begins,” staffer Trent Butschek said.
As we move into a new semester, we hope you return refreshed, encouraged and ready to take on new challenges.
“Use this much needed break as a time to enjoy your holidays. Take time to be thankful for a long break you get to spend with the people you love,” Editor in Chief Olivia Weiser said. “Take a deep breath and take it all in, these years will go by so fast and it’s important to embrace them while they’re here. Whether you’re a freshman, senior, or outside community member reading this, speaking from my whole Lariat staff, enjoy your break to the fullest, and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!”
From all of us at The Brahma Lariat, we wish you a restful break, a joyful Christmas and a hopeful start to the new year.
