Hard work and discipline paid off as the Golf team qualified for regionals this season. After showing strong and good potential, the team proved that dedication truly makes a difference on the golf course.
“We’ve struggled stringing together a whole round of solid golf. Some struggle with short game while others struggle getting off the tee box, but I am proud of the way they handled diversity during the round and posting great scores,” Golf coach Kahanek said. “I am a firm believer in practicing short games the most. We do a lot of putting and chipping drills. The boys’ team has set a goal to place top two in district to advance to regionals. As a coach, I expect them to compete at a high level and I know they are capable. The girls are improving every week as well,” Kahanek said.
Despite the struggles, the team is focused on succeeding in each game and the athletes are setting big goals and preparing to compete at their highest level.
“My biggest improvement has been lowering my score with every tournament and staying positive. Something that motivates me to improve my game is earning a golf scholarship to ACU. My goal for this season is to go to regionals. I plan to achieve it by continuing to get better and lowering my score,” junior Brailey Gohlke said.
Using each challenge as motivation rather than a setback to keep moving forward, even when rounds don’t go as planned, the team continues to push forward and proves hard work is what truly defines their journey.
“My biggest improvement since the start of the season is my mental game. I’m more relaxed and more comfortable; my motivation is just for the team to do good. One of my personal goals is to go to state as a team,” junior Elias Ferguson said.
Throughout the season, the players have faced multiple challenges. Every round is a new opportunity to learn, and the team has shown resilience by staying focused and helping others.
“My biggest improvement is not getting in my head a lot, even when I make a mistake, my motivation is to do good since it’s a team game and not let them down. My personal goal since we made it to regional and I won district is to go to state,” sophomore Liam Ferguson said.
Although the team has faced challenges, they are still strong and confident to show their determination not just in scores, but in confidence, teamwork, and growth as players. As they continue their journey, it’s clear that their commitment is turning into success.
