Once every year, the Quill and Scroll students put on a soda bar for the teachers; the students and Mrs. Opiela supply everything from the soda all the way to the cups and syrups. The teachers enjoy the bar and think that it is more sentimental when the students put on things for them.
“I think the teachers love recognition, and it means more when it comes from students,” Geometry teacher and coach Timothy Bridges said.
In addition to the teachers feeling recognized, one of the coaches believes that when students organize activities like the soda bar and other student-run initiatives for teachers, it makes them feel more rewarded.
“I think it’s a great treat for teachers and it makes us feel rewarded,” Bridges said.
The soda bar is a great morale booster for the teachers, especially because it’s so close to the Christmas season.
“For sure, it puts them in the Christmas spirit when we do it before Christmas; we’re no different than anybody else,” Bridges said.
Even though it’s the Christmas season, some teachers would rather have a soda instead of hot chocolate.

“I love all the teacher appreciation, and it’s not hot chocolate,” high school counselor Brooke Mathews said.
With the dirty sodas, the quill and scroll also has candies for the teachers to snack on, and they love the snacks because they can eat them throughout the day and the week.
“I normally have a Coke and a Kit Kat, and I love saving the Kit Kat in my fridge and eating it later in the week; it’s the gift that keeps on giving,” senior English teacher Donna Stillions said.
This year, the soda bar was a hit, and many teachers loved it and can’t wait until next year when we do it again.
