Dresses, heels, and jewelry galore. Prom season is right around the corner, and stress levels are at their max. Trying to perfectly plan everything can be challenging for young Hallettville students. First-time students going to prom can get overwhelmed easily, so here’s some advice from your fellow teachers and students here at HHS.
This year’s prom takes place on Saturday, Feb. 7. Half Moon Empire is hosting a prom for Hallettsville juniors and seniors. If it’s your first time attending prom, no need to fear, your seniors are here! Here’s a little advice from Senior Rylyn Orsak.
“Definitely plan things ahead because if you’re too last-minute with certain appointments, you’re not gonna be able to get scheduled,” Orsak said.
With planning always comes the fun of the big day. However, to ensure things go according to plan, it is essential to keep a record of appointments, deadlines, and orders.
“Mentally, I’m preparing for the amount of fun I’m gonna have with my friends, and physically just making sure I have all of my appointments planned out for the big day,” Orsak said.
Students aren’t the only ones who have to plan out prom. Teacher and junior class sponsor Kasey Gohlke is a first-time prom sponsor and is thankful for the juniors who are taking the wheel.
“Really, the junior class officers kinda do it all. We give them tasks, and they take care of it. The junior class gets their opinions put on a Google Form that is sent out by Mrs. Jahn to the Google Classroom. They vote on the theme and different aspects that we have at prom,” Mrs. Gohlke said.
Hallettsville Student Council President Peyton Pasak has some other thoughts to keep in mind when preparing for prom.
“I would recommend to someone going to prom for the first time to be open-minded and realize not everything is gonna go exactly how you want it to go,” Pasak said.
Balancing being a student going to prom and being the president of student council can have its challenges but Peyton is hopeful all goes well on the big night.
“As StuCo president, my plans for prom are helping me and my friends prepare for the big night, as well as hoping everything goes as smoothly as possible,” Pasak said.
Prom is a time that students and teachers get to work side by side to make a magical night for those who attend. Teacher and prom coordinator Lindsay Jahn has been in the prom game for a few years and lets her co-coordinators take the leash for most options.
“I have a good team of Sponsors that work with me. We have to get a venue set, we have to have a budget and our team of class officers have to come up with food options and a photo booth set up,” Mrs. Jahn said.
The advice Mrs Jahn has for students is short, simple and sweet.
“Have fun, be safe and get your dress approved,” Mrs. Jahn said.
So whatever your plans for prom are, whether it’s scheduling ahead, doing things last minute, or taking care of everything all at once, remember that prom should be fun, and enjoy it while it lasts.
“Just have fun, and enjoy the ride because it goes by fast.” Mrs. Gohlke said.
