With the new season starting, the Hallettsville girls and boys soccer teams are starting strong, already having played two games, and on Jan. 8, they played at Rice in a tournament. The boys tied with Rice and had a shootout on Jan.9, in which they won. The boys’ soccer coach, Jesus Gonzalez, is very proud of how the boys played.
“I’m proud of them playing hard and physical. They are putting in the work, and the results show,” Gonzalez said.
The boys are also proud of how they played.
“Our season is going pretty good. We’re already so much better than last year. For the first time ever, we placed in this tournament that we’ve gone to every year. And I mean, we games, so that’s really, really good,” Senior Lucas Hill said.
With the boys having lost one and tied one, they have the amazing opportunity to improve their teamwork or personal goals.
“I think as a team, we can improve on finishing up top because we have like a really solid defense this year. And then work it up, putting like moving the ball up, just we need to work on finishing the drive,” Hill said.
One player says that he feels like the teamwork is getting better.
“It feels like we’re actually a team rather than acting like we’re on opposing sides,” sophomore Luke Freytag said.
The girls lost their tournament in Rice, but they are working on being positive throughout the season, even if they lose.
“By staying positive throughout the season, even when we’re losing, which sucks to lose, which we did in the tournament this past week, but you stay positive to keep winning,” senior Analise Goode said.
We wish the Brahmas and Lady Brahmas luck in having an amazing season.
