There are many fun things to do in the cold weather. You could play in the snow, or you could design cool fashion clothes that still keep you warm, or you could try to walk on the ice. With all of these fun things to do in the cold, how could you choose what to do?
Since it’s so cold, it’s hard to look cute while keeping warm, but don’t worry, there are still ways to do both.
Oversized sweater + leggings:
This combo is always perfect for the cold weather, especially since sweaters and leggings both come in neutral colors, so you’ll always have a set that looks good together.
Turtleneck+plaid skirt+ tights:
This combo is for the girls who love to be cute while still staying warm. Pair this with a headband, and you’ll have the perfect outfit for a winter photoshoot
Puffer jacket:
A puffer jacket is perfect for winter; it can go with so many things, such as leggings or jeans. Because it’s so big, it’s bound to keep you warm if you want to stay outside all day.
Sweater dress and tall boots:
Now this one is tricky; it can look very cute, or it can just look bleh. Each outfit will decide on what kind of dress you have. If you have a mini or knee-length dress, go with over-the-knee boots to tie it all together. If you have a midi dress, you can also use tall boots that go right to the hem of the dress. If you have an oversized sweater dress, you’re gonna need a belt so it doesn’t make the look shapeless.
Must have accessories to keep you warm:
To go with your wonderful winter outfits, you need cute accessories, earmuffs, and gloves are always a good choice, but sometimes you need more. You can always add a scarf to tie a look together and protect the bottom half of your face and neck. But if you need a little more warmth, an electric hand warmer will do the trick; they’re small and can get really warm really quickly, perfect for this weather.
Now that you have the perfect outfit to be outside, what can you do when you’re out there?
You can always make a snowman, a perfect buddy to have while you’re outside. When you’re making your snowman, make sure you have the right kind of snow. If the snow doesn’t hold when you squeeze it, then your snowman will fall apart. You can make your snowman a friend and make snow angels, that’s Paitten’s favorite thing to do in the snow.
“I like to make snow angels and throw snowballs at my sister,” sophomore Paitten Brown said.
If you have friends who live near you or siblings, you can always have a snowball fight with them. You can divide your yard into sections and make forts before you start your snowball fight.
Sophomore Kevin Newhouse likes to have one-sided snowball fights with his brother.
“I like to make snowballs and throw them at my brother,” Newhouse said.
If you have a lot of land or a trail near you, try to take a hike. The snow covering everything will be a change in scenery and might be more special than taking a normal hike. If you have a dog, your dog will love to take a walk in the snow and love to play with you. Sophomore Lyla Graham loves to play with her dog in the snow.
“I like to play in the snow with my dog,” Graham said.
Now that you have the perfect outfit and things to do, what can you do to protect your house and plants? You can drip your faucets so your pipes don’t freeze, and you have running water throughout the freeze. The same can be said for your hoses, so your hoses don’t freeze, and then you have to buy new ones.
But what about your car? You need to protect it from the freeze, too, so make sure your gas tank is at least half full, so if you need to, you can go anywhere, and if your car won’t start, don’t keep trying to start it; give it a break so the battery can warm up.
Always be ready for a power outage, and have many blankets, flashlights, and a heater so you can keep warm.
Everybody, stay warm and have a wonderful and safe winter!
