As the Spring season approaches, so does the baseball season. The Hallettsville Brahmas have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season, hoping to make it a good one.
“We’ve been working on our fundamental skills and trying to prepare for any situation,” head baseball coach Chad Gohlke said when asked how he and his team have been getting ready for the season.
The baseball players are getting the practice they need to do well on the field, but as with any sport, the team realizes that it will not always be smooth sailing.
“Our biggest struggle this season has been the cold weather and just a lack of communication between the players,” varsity senior Konnor Kopecky shared what they’ve been struggling with this season.
They aren’t letting those minor setbacks stop them from being the best. They are learning to work through their struggles and will grow stronger. At practice, the boys undergo different training and drills to help them achieve this goal—both in their sport and in real life.
“The first 10 minutes we learn how to become a better person off the field and then we go up to the field and warm up with stretches and sprints. After that, we start our throwing program,” Kopecky said while describing a typical practice. “Next, we work on our defense or hit on the field and just work on our fundamentals.”
The team has big goals for the upcoming season. Their ambition and determination to succeed will greatly help them achieve big things this season. A lot of the players hope to finish first in their district before making a run in playoffs.
“(Our team is) very experienced with returning seven starters. (We are all) focused on accomplishing our goals,” said Gohlke.
One of the main things the team wants to improve is mental strength, which Coach Gohlke hopes will help bring success later in the season.
“We are focused on being mentally prepared. We have the skills but baseball is a mental game,” said Gohlke. “The team is buying into what we are trying to do. We have been very successful so far. We still have a lot of progress to go and a lot of things to fix but the boys are playing hard.”
The Hallettsville Brahma baseball team is looking forward to what they hope will be their most successful season yet. Starting strong, the boys have a winning streak of 3-0. Come out and support the Brahmas on March 6-8 as they play at the Jimmy Appelt tournament.
