Congratulations to our Brahmas on their 14-7 win against the Gonzales High School Apaches. This win brings the Hallettsville Brahmas to 2-0 on the season.
The Brahmas annual parent night was held on the field before the start of Friday night’s game. The football boys and the cheerleaders walked the track with their families, honoring their support throughout their high school athletic careers.
Our boys started the game strong and determined to get the second win of the season. The Brahmas scored first in the top of the second quarter, a testament to the defensive strength of both teams.
Head coach, Levi Montgomery, stated that initially he was concerned about the overall speed Gonzales possessed coming into the game.
“I’m certainly very proud of the way our defense played,” praised Coach Montgomery. “They are running to the football and tackling. You’ve got to have an edge and a nastiness to play defense, and we are playing with both right now.”
Staying ahead in the second quarter of the game, Montgomery emphasized that the defense was doing good things, but underlined that the offense could be improved.
“Offensively, we are doing some good things, but we’ve got too many mental mistakes going on,” stated Montgomery. “Once we get our mental mistakes cleaned up, we’re going to be okay.”
When asked what Coach Montgomery’s favorite memory from the game was he reminisced on the play that he feels could have shifted the outcome of the game, and how his team handled the pressure, turning it into a momentum builder.
“Right before the first half, our defense had a huge stop down deep in our territory. If we don’t get that stop, the game could have turned out in a different way,” explains Montgomery.
With this win from Friday night’s game, the Brahmas are looking to continue to set the tone for their opponents this season.
The Brahmas will play again this Friday, September 13, 2024 here at home against the Tidehaven Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
